The door panel on a 2005 C/K 1500 Silverado, which is the half-ton pickup from Chevrolet, takes less then 30 minutes to fully remove. The door panel houses the door speaker, light and all hardware for the window and door locks. If any of these parts need to be repaired or replaced, the door panel itself must be removed first. Only a few tools are needed for this job, making it simple and easy to do on your own in your driveway.
Instructions
Removing the Door Panel
- 1
Open the door and roll the window down completely. Use a flat screwdriver to gently pry the plastic triangle trim piece off of the inside of the side mirror.
2Pry the plastic lever for the manual door lock off of the door using a flat screwdriver. Pull it straight up off of the metal lever.
3Lift up the switch panel control that houses the controls for the door locks and windows. Pry the panel up with a flat screwdriver. Unplug the wiring from behind the panel to fully disconnect it from the door. Use a 7 mm socket to remove the screw hidden behind the switch panel.
4Remove the 7 mm screw from above the door release handle, just underneath the pull handle. Use a flat screwdriver to remove the plastic trim from around the door release handle.
5Pry the light lens off of the door panel using a flat screwdriver to gently release the tabs around the edges of the lens. Unplug the wiring from behind the lens.
6Lift the door panel away from the door, pulling the bottom up towards you to unhook it from the top of the door. Reach behind the door panel to unplug the speaker wire from the speaker. The door panel is now free from the door.
Replacing the Door Panel
- 7
Hold the door panel next to the door and connect the speaker wire to the back side of the speaker in the door panel.
8Hook the top of the door panel onto the top of the door near the window and let the panel rest against the door.
9Reach behind the door panel from the side to connect the wiring into the back side of the light in the panel. Place the lens onto the door panel and press it down until it snaps into place.
10Use a ratchet and 7 mm socket to install the bolt into the door panel underneath the door release handle. Press the plastic trim surrounding the door release handle into place until it snaps in.
11Install the 7mm screw into the panel near the switch panel opening. Place the switch control panel near the opening and plug the wiring for the windows and door locks into the backside of the housing. Push the panel into place in the arm rest on the door panel until it snaps in.
12Place the plastic housing for the door lock lever near the opening for it in the panel. Insert the bent part of the door handle rod into the hole on the back side of the plastic housing and snap it into place.
13Push the manual door lock lever into place so that it snaps. Place the plastic triangle trim onto the area over rear view mirror and press it into place so that it snaps also.
