Although the number of units sold in February for each car was down in comparison to January sales numbers, the total number of hybrid cars sold increased from last year. In February 2005, the number of hybrid cars sold was 10,400. That number has increased this February to over 13,000 (as of publication, the numbers on the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner were not available).
Honda sales increased 18% from 2,230 to 2,635 units sold. The Honda Accord had sales drop 8% from 855 to 783 units sold. But both the Honda Civic and the Insight had their sales increase from 1,353 to 1,780 (32%) and 22 to 72 (227%) units sold, respectively.
Toyota sales also increased 55% from 7,078 to 10,981 units sold. Although sales of the Toyota Prius were down 8% from 7,078 to 6,547 units sold, the Prius is still dominant within the hybrid sphere. Toyota sales increased based on the additional numbers of the Highlander (2,631) and Lexus Rx 400h (1,803) units sold.
