Town Directors in Manchester, CT heard a proposal on providing tax relief to hybrid car owners. If adopted, the proposal calls for $5,000 of a vehicle's assessed value to be taken off for the first five years from when the car first receives the exemption.
According to the locals who were pushing the proposal, the tax relief would be intended to help those who are looking to help the environment. Since hybrid cars cost so much more than regular cars, those who buy them aren't looking to save on gas money. Instead, they just "believe in helping the environment."
"This is not only a global issue, it's a local issue," Eugene DeJoannis said.
If adopted, the tax break would go into affect on Jan 1.
