Edmunds Inside Line has the latest on the new BYD plug-in hybrid sedan. BYD is looking to show off their concept at the Detroit North American International Auto Show.
The plug-in will be based off of the F6 and will be called F6DM (DM stands for dual mode). It's range is about 60 miles on electric alone, but can be extended to 270 miles using the gas engine. The battery pack will be iron-based, not lithium-ion which all the other car manufacturers are waiting on. The company also claims the battery pack can be recharged to 70% in 10 minutes.
The F6DM has a top speed of 100 mph. BYD is looking to sell the plug-in hybrid in China in 2008. BYD acquired the assets of Qinchuan in 2005 and hopes to increase sales to 100,000 units a year.
