A faulty window regulator on your Town & Country van will throw the window glass out of alignment, risking possible damage to the glass and other parts within the door. If you can't properly fit the glass back within the window, you must replace the window regulator. The track the regulator rests in is within the door, so you must remove the interior door panel to disconnect the glass from the regulator and then the regulator from the door.
Instructions
- 1
Disconnect the van's negative battery cable, especially if it is equipped with power locks and windows. Pry off the switch panel from the door with a small, flat-blade tool and disconnect its electrical connector. If the van has a manual window crank, remove its retaining clip from behind the crank with a hooked tool and detach the crank handle.
2Remove the door's inner trim panel. Remove the fasteners within the door handle bezel, inner door grip and lower panel edge. Pry the fasteners off their clips by inserting a removal tool along the edge; start at the bottom of the panel and work your way around. Lift and pull the panel away, then disconnect all electrical connectors and the lock rod connecting the door handle.
3Peel the water shield carefully away from the door. Remove the inner belt molding by peeling the upper corner seals away and pulling the molding upward to disengage it from the door panel flange. Lower the window, loosen the screws holding the glass to the regulator plates, push the glass back up into the window frame and tape it in place.
4Loosen the screws that hold the guide rails to the door panel and remove the screw heads from the keyhole slots in the panel. Detach the old regulator by lifting it up, slide it rearward and remove it through the door's access hole.
5Insert the new regulator through the access hole in the door, slide it forward and push it down into place. Replace the screw heads on the guide rails and tighten the screws.
6Remove the tape on the glass carefully, lower it down into the door and screw it into place within the regulator. Replace the inner belt molding, then stick the water shield back in place.
