The 2000 Malibu comes equipped with rear windows that have a child safety feature that prevents the windows from being lowered all the way. The windows ride on rollers that guide the glass up and down when they are operated. Over time, the rear driver's side window may come off its track and no longer operate properly. The window can get stuck in any position when it gets off track. In order to fix the window, you must gain access to the inside of the car door, and figure out what the cause of the problem is.
Instructions

Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery if your Malibu has power locks and windows. Remove the door trim panel, using the trim removal tool. Pry out the switches for the power locks and windows using the trim removal tool or the screwdriver, then unplug the electrical connectors. If your Malibu has manually operated windows, remove the window-operating handle with the trim removal tool.
2Pry off the plastic covers located behind the door pull, using the screwdriver. Detach and remove the screws underneath the covers. Pull the door handle as if you were opening the door, then remove the handle bezel screw and the bezel.
3Remove any remaining trim panels securing the main door trim panel, using the trim removal tool. Remove the main door trim panel by working around it with the trim removal tool. Detach any electrical connectors.
4Remove the plastic water deflector. Peel it away carefully to ensure that it does not become damaged in the removal process.
5Lower the window and determine the cause of the problem. Check the rollers and any other components that are keeping the window in place. Replace any broken or damaged components. Reposition the window properly if there are no damaged components. Apply lubricant to any moving parts, and clean out any debris that may have accumulated inside the door.
6Check for proper operation and reinstall the door trim. Restore power to the window temporarily if it is power-operated. Move the window fully up and down and check for any problems. If there are no problems, install the door trim, the water deflector and any pieces that were removed.
