The 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid was officially qualified by the IRS for meeting the requirements of the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit. In other words, if you buy a 2008 Altima Hybrid, you may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $2,350. That's the same amount as the 2007 Altima Hybrid tax credit.
Unlike Toyota and more recently Honda, Nissan has almost no chance of hitting the 60,000 hybrid cars sold limit, so Nissan buyers don't have to worry about the tax credit phasing out anytime soon.
According to the IRS, Nissan sold 2,627 qualifiying vehicles during the third quarter of this year, bringing their total up to 7,849. Only the Altima Hybrid has qualified from Nissan, and since Altima Hybrid is only sold in eight states and in limited numbers, the sales figures should remain fairly steady into the future.
