The 1998 Ford Mustang has two power window regulators, one in each door. The regulator is a mechanical, scissor-shaped device that opens and closes the window. The power window motor turns a gear on the base of the window regulator that makes this possible. If your 1998 Mustang's window regulator breaks, you may notice either the window seems to be off-track or it won't close. When this happens, if you have a solid grasp on auto-repair, you can install a new window regulator in your 1998 Ford Mustang in about an hour.

Instructions

    1

Pry the inner door handle/window switch bezel from the 1998 Mustang's door with the trim tool. Unplug the window power circuit connector from the base of the power window switch by hand.

    2

Remove the hex-head screws holding the 1998 Mustang's door panel to the door using the socket set. Lift the coupe's door panel up and off the door by hand.

    3

Reach both hands into the 1998 Mustang's door. Grab the window and lift it as high as it will go. Shove the window wedges between the glass and the window wipes to hold the glass in place.

    4

Unbolt the 1998 Mustang's window regulator from the window glass, door mounts and window motor using your socket set. Extract the broken window regulator from the door by hand.

    5

Maneuver the new window regulator into the 1998 Mustang's door by hand. Bolt the new regulator to the door mounts, window motor and window glass using a socket set. Remove the window wedges from the Mustang's door by hand.

    6

Reinstall the 1998 Mustang's door panel.
