The emergency blinker switch on your Chevrolet Suburban is located on top of the vehicle's steering column. If the blinker switch begins to malfunction, you will be unable to operate your Suburban's blinkers. Thankfully, the replacement process is fairly simple and it only involves taking apart the steering column to access the switch. You should expect to spend close to half an hour replacing your Suburban's emergency blinker switch.

Lift the hood of the Suburban and disconnect the battery ground cable.
2Remove the bolts from the rear of the steering wheel with a socket wrench. Pry off the air bag with a slotted screwdriver and remove it from the vehicle.
3Use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
4Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws from the instrument panel trim cover and pry off the trim cover with a slotted screwdriver.
5Pry off the steering column shrouds with a slotted screwdriver.
6Insert a slotted screwdriver into the lock plate cover slot and pry out the cover. Remove the lock plate with a socket wrench. Pry the wire snap-ring out of the shaft groove and discard it
7Remove the screw from the turn signal level and remove it. Press the emergency blinker button inwards and unscrew it.
8Remove the two screws securing the blinker switch. Disconnect the switch's electrical connector and remove it from the steering column.
9Install a replacement switch. Reattach the screws and reconnect the switch's electrical connector.
10Reattach the turn signal lever and blinker button. Reinstall the lock plate and the lock plate cover slot. Reattach the steering column shrouds by snapping them onto the steering column.
11Reinstall the instrument panel trim cover and its screws.
12Place the steering wheel back onto the steering column. Reattach the air bag and the bolts at the rear of the steering wheel. Reconnect the Suburban's battery.
