The Nissan Quest began its production life as a joint venture between Ford and Nissan in 1993. The 2001 Nissan Quest came with a 3.4-liter, V-6 engine that churned out 170 horsepower and 200 foot-pounds of torque. The 2001 model year marked the third model year since the Quest's redesign in 1999. This redesign brought about a sleeker looking front end, but the rear end of the Quest remained almost untouched -- including the taillight assembly. Changing the taillight bulb in these relatively basic assemblies is an easy task that a novice do-it-yourself mechanic can complete.

Instructions

    1

    Open the Quest's rear hatch.

    2

Remove the two screws securing the taillight assembly to the hatch jamb -- on the inner part of the lens -- with a Phillips screwdriver.

    3

Pull the taillight assembly from the rear of the Quest and turn it over to expose the bulb sockets located on its rear. Turn the upper socket -- taillight socket -- counterclockwise to release it. Pull the taillight socket from the taillight assembly.

    4

Pull the taillight bulb from the taillight socket with a slight wiggling motion. Grab a new 3157 taillight bulb by its plastic base and press it into the taillight socket. Do not touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers, as the oils from your hands can cause premature bulb failure.

    5

Insert the socket and new taillight bulb in the taillight assembly and turn it clockwise to lock it into place.

    6

Set the taillight assembly back on the rear of the Quest and tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Close the rear hatch.
