The rear sliding window in the Dodge Dakota is a wonderful way to get some extra ventilation in the cab. But if you use the bed of your truck very much it is possible to damage that rear sliding window. If the window is cracked or the frame of the window is bent, it is better to install a new window to keep the glass from cracking out of the frame completely. Installing a new rear sliding window in a Dodge Dakota can be completed with basic hand tools.

Instructions

    1

Wrap the rubber window gasket around the edge of the new sliding window assembly. Make sure that you place the window assembly in the outside track of the gasket. The rubber gasket should fit snuggly around the window. It may be necessary to use a flat screwdriver to maneuver the last bit of gasket on the edge of the window assembly.

    2

Press woven rope into the main sealing groove of the rubber window gasket. Start inserting the rope at the top-center of the window. Make sure that at least a foot of rope is left hanging over the edge of the gasket at both ends of the rope. The rope needs to be inserted into the gasket all the way around the window assembly.

    3

Position the window in place with the help of an assistant.

    4

Go into the cab and begin to slowly pull on the woven rope. The sealing edge of the gasket will be pulled into the truck cab and over the metal of the cab. Continue to pull the all the way around the window. It should be difficult to remove the rope because the gasket will create a tight seal between the truck cab and the window frame. Don't be afraid to use a little muscle if necessary.
