How to Remove the Rear Brake Rotors on a 1999 Chevy Blazer ZR-2

You need to keep an eye on your rear brake rotors on the Chevy Blazer ZR-2. If there are any grooves, nicks or other damage, you have to have them resurfaced, or you need to put new rotors on. There is no sense in putting new brake pads on a wheel that has a rotor with damage, as it will simply damage the brake pads as well. They also are not as effective with rotor damage. The procedure to remove the brake rotors will take less than 45 minutes to complete each wheel.

Place the wheel chocks in front of the front wheels. Raise the Blazer up with the automobile jack. Place a jack stand under the vehicle near the jacking point, and raise it to the frame. Loosen the lug nuts with the lug wrench, and take the wheel off the Blazer.

Loosen the caliper bolts with the socket and ratchet. Pull the caliper away from the rotor, and secure it to the shock absorber with a wire tie.

Pull the rotor from the wheel hub. If it does not come off easily, strike it with the rubber mallet several times until it breaks free.
