The Isuzu Rodeo was manufactured with front disc brakes that require routine maintenance to prevent damage or a loss of stopping power. The brake pads, pushed against a rotor with a hydraulic caliper, can wear out of material and require replacement. The average backyard mechanic can replace a set of pads on the Rodeo in about 1 hour.

Access

Raise the Rodeo with a floor jack at the wheel where the rotor is to be replaced. Remove the wheel by turning the lug nuts counterclockwise, then set the tire aside. Inspect the caliper and rotor for damage or debris.

Removal

Remove the caliper by turning the twin rear mount bolts in a counterclockwise direction, then sliding the caliper off the rotor. The pads are not secured into the caliper pistons, but wear and dust may have stuck them there. Remove the hub lock nut, if applicable, with a large socket wrench and driver. Pull the rotor free of the hub.

Replacement

Replace the rotor with a new unit, then press the fresh rotor onto the hub. Turn the hub nut clockwise until it is tight. Replace the caliper by sliding it onto the rotor, lining up the rear bolt holes. Turn the caliper mount bolts clockwise, until they are snug. Replace the wheel by turning its lug nuts clockwise, in an alternating pattern. Lower the Rodeo from the floor jack. Repeat the entire procedure for the remaining rotor(s).
