Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to computer accessories, and more specifically to a multifunctional touchscreen interface system for use with a computer. The mechanical QWERTY keyboard has changed very little since inception, and is the standard for use with personal computers including desktop and laptop versions. Used in conjunction with a mouse or other device, keyboards effectuate many functions. However there are many limitations. For example, scrolling, enlarging, and so forth are not easily accomplished with a keyboard, and typically require a mouse as well.
Many users of smartphones, tablets, and the like are familiar with the versatility and functionality of touchscreens. In short, one may carry out various commands by touching the associated screen in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, however, touchscreens are found with smaller devices that aren’t reasonably suited for regular computing, or else touchscreens replace the monitor of a computer, which doesn’t reasonably lend itself to regular use insofar as doing so is physically awkward and uncomfortable (a screen is desirably vertical and at eye-level whereas a keyboard is lower and horizontal) so a QWERTY keyboard is still desirable. As can be seen, there is a need for a multifunctional touchscreen interface system that is simple and intuitive to use. It desirably facilitates QWERTY and SWYPE typing, and incorporates some familiar touchscreen operations such as swiping, pinching and tapping. It is desirable that this device acts as a second monitor, allows a variety of configuration changes and smart-keys, and provides touch-interaction with programs. It is also desirable that this device is wireless and “plug and play.”
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
- FIG. 1 depicts an embodiment having a QWERTY keyboard and touchpad
- FIG. 2 depicts a variety of configurations
- FIG. 3 demonstrates how the device can be augmented and used as a touchscreen monitor
- FIG. 4 provides an exploded view of some components according to an embodiment of the invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims. An embodiment of a system according to the present invention includes the following components:1 - Touch-screen interface (keyboard)
2 - Licensed software and apps
3 - Specially created software and apps
4 - Wireless connectivity.
Broadly, a system according to an embodiment of the present invention houses a touchscreen interface, and replaces the traditional keyboard device. A combination of licensed and specially created software is utilized for the system’s functionality. Also, the system can be configured to allow the installation and execution of "apps". It is preferable that the system connects wirelessly, for example using BLUETOOTH® technology, or is wired using a detachable USB cable. The system can function as a touch-screen mouse pad, or a standard mouse can be plugged into its USB port. The system allows a user to enter text, navigate around the screen, control programs, and much more.
