GMC Denali XT Hybrid TruckGM will unveil a new hybrid truck, the Denali XT Hybrid, at the Chicago Auto Show. The Denali XT Hybrid is a concept vehicle, not intended for production.

The hybrid truck is based on a unibody car-like frame for a smoother ride and better fuel economy. It has a 55 inch bed, is low slung and has a smooth look. Each corner has an independent, adjustable air suspension.

GMC claims the concept will get 50 percent better fuel economy than the standard pick-up, but still gets 326 hp. The 4.9-liter V-8 is capable of using E85.

The hybrid system comes from the two-mode system co-developed with BMW and DaimlerChrysler and is featured in GM's new hybrids, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, Sierra, etc...

The Denali XT seats four, with a mid-gate between the cab and the bed. The bed itself is 55 inches long and 47.5 inches wide. The mid-gate can fold down for extra length.

The AP report on the Denali XT notes the similarity between the Toyota A-Bat Hybrid Truck concept car shown off last month. They seem very similar, although the Denali XT can run on E85.

The Denali also shows off quite a few refinements, including broad front benders, high-set headlamps and flush-mounted tailpipes. Add in the 23-inch wheels and this is a flashy concept truck.
