Connecting rods connect your vehicles engine piston to the crank shaft and transmit the power from the piston to the crank shaft. The spinning of the crank shaft transfers the motion to your vehicles axles which in turn transfers the motion to the wheels of your vehicle. A lateral-motion rod is a particular type of connecting rod that connects pistons and crank shafts that use side motion.

Place the link pin into the piston bearing. Use a rubber a mallet to tap it into place because the link pin will not fit in completely by hand. The rubber mallet produces a solid force with enough give that it does not damage the metal. Leave enough space at the end so the notch on the like pin is showing. This is required to connect to the lateral-motion rod.
2Slide the lateral-motion rod into the piston. Line the groove in the side-motion rod with the notch in the link pin. Push the rod firmly into place so it does not move from its position.
3Set the wood block inside the piston. Apply downward pressure inside the piston to hold it in place. Using a wood block allows you to apply pressure without causing damage to the metal. With the link pin facing up, use a rubber mallet to tap the link pin into place until the link pin is firmly inserted into the retainer groove. Insert the retainer clip through the groove.
