The Nissan 240SX is a two-door, rear-wheel drive sports car. It was released by Nissan in the late 1980s and has gone through several different iterations. The 1990 edition, code-named the "Zenki," had a protruding square-nosed bumper often referred to as a "Pignose." The following version, released in 1993, was called the "Chuki" and had a more modern, rounded front end. Though there are technical differences in the engine between the Zenki and Chuki, it is a straightforward job to switch the bumpers.
Instructions
- 1
Jack up the car and place the axle stands under the front wheels. Make sure they are stable and secure before proceeding, since you will need to be under the car at times during the bumper swap.
2Remove the lug nuts on both front wheels. Lift them both from the hubs and set them aside. Removing the wheels will give you easier access to the bumper mounting bolts inside the front end of the chassis.
3Unclip the plastic fender lining from inside the chassis and remove it from under the car.
4Remove the flat head screws on each side of the turn signal lenses from the front of the bumper. With the lenses disconnected, slide them through the mounting holes inside the bumper. This will prevent the wires from being snagged or pulled when the bumper is removed.
5Remove the bolts holding the bumper to the support, using the sockets. You may find it easier to remove the lower bolts from under the car and the upper ones by raising the hood and reaching down past the engine.
6Lift off the Pignose bumper once all the bolts have been removed. Lift the Chuki bumper into position and thread the turn signal lenses through the holes. Re-attach all of the bolts and screw the lenses into position. Replace the fender lining and the wheels. Make sure connections are firmly fastened before taking the car down from the axle stands.
