You may have to relieve the fuel system pressure in a Chevrolet Cavalier if you are replacing the fuel pump, removing the intake manifold or working with the fuel injectors. The fuel injection system on the Cavalier is under pressure. If you don't remove the pressure before working on the fuel system, you could injure yourself.
Instructions
- 1
Locate the relay box near the driver's side fenderwell.
2Unsnap and lift the cover off the relay box. Look at the diagram on the underside of the cover to locate the fuel pump relay.
3Pull the fuel pump relay out of its socket. You can use your fingers, but you may need the needle nose pliers to get it out.
4Start the vehicle. If it starts, let it run until it stalls. If it doesn't start, crank it over five or six times to relieve the fuel pressure.
5Complete the repair, then reinstall the fuel pump relay. Reinstall the cover, ensuring that it snaps into place.
