How to Replace the Security Fuse in a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee

In the early 1990s, Jeep had to play catch-up to Ford, as the Explorer hit showrooms in 1991. Jeep succeeded in catching up with Ford with the release of the Grand Cherokee, in 1993. The 1995 Grand Cherokee came in two trim levels, SE and Laredo. Both trim levels came standard with a 4.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine that cranked out 180 horsepower. The Grand Cherokee Laredo came standard with a security system to help prevent vehicle theft. As with all of the Grand Cherokee's electronics, a fuse protects the security system from unexpected power surges. Replacing the security fuse in the 1995 Grand Cherokee is a straightforward and quick task that any owner should learn to do.

Instructions

    1

Open the passenger side door and leave it open. Locate the fuse access panel on the far passenger's side of the dashboard -- closest to the door. Grab the access door's handle and pull the panel away from the dashboard. Set the panel in a safe area.

    2

Find the blue 15-amp security module fuse -- second row of fuses, second fuse from the left. Grab the fuse with your fingers and pull it away from the fuse panel, using a slight wiggling motion.

    3

Line the prongs of a new 15-amp fuse up with the receptacle in the fuse panel. Press the fuse into the fuse panel until it stops moving.

    4

Line the clips on the rear of the fuse access panel up with the slots on the far passenger's side of the dashboard. Press the fuse access panel onto the dashboard until it snaps into place. Close the Grand Cherokee's door.
