Baffles are small metal discs on the inside of vehicle mufflers that are used to eliminate noise inside the muffler. Flowmaster is a California-based company that specializes in manufacturing aftermarket, high-performance exhaust equipment -- like mufflers -- for muscle cars such as Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs. Over time, the baffles inside can become loose or they can break off altogether inside the muffler. The end result is a clicking or a high-pitched whine when the vehicle accelerates. Flowmaster mufflers have to be completely replaced when the baffles break.

Instructions

    1

Park the vehicle and make sure the exhaust pipe and muffler cools completely before touching it.

    2

Take off the two upper panhard bar bolts with socket set and slide the bar downwards.

    3

Loosen the clamp bolts between the muffler and the over-axle pipes, but do not completely remove them. Bolts should be loosened wide enough for ball connection on the inlet pipe to squeeze through.

    4

Pull the the rear hanger rods from the exhaust pipe and slide the muffler forward and out of the front mounts. Slide these clamps onto the the inlet pipes of the new muffler by snapping them on until you hear them click into place.

    5

Slip the front hanger rods onto the rubber mounts first, then slip the rear hanger rods into place and tighten the muffler clamp.

    6

Push the panhard bar back up into position and bolt it down with the socket set.
