How to Install a Metra Ground Loop Isolator

The improper installation of an aftermarket car stereo systems can introduce electrical problems to a vehicle. One of these problems is a ground loop. It occurs when two separate circuits ground connections interfere with one another. In a car audio system, this can result in a noticeable humming sound when playing music. Correcting this type of problem is done with a ground loop isolator. Installing the device is a simple process almost anyone can do.

Instructions

    1

Locate the car stereo's amplifier. This is typically located in the trunk or behind the seats and is encased in a metal rectangular box. Find the RCA input connection by looking at the amplifier's markings for "input".

    2

Remove the two RCA input cables from the amplifier by pulling them out. Plug these two outlets into the female RCA plugs on the ground loop isolator. Make sure you match the color or the cables together.

    3

Plug the RCA cable into the other two wires on the ground loop isolator by pushing them together.

    4

Plug the RCA cable into the input ports in the amplifier.
