2009 Nissan Rogue: Tail Light Assembly Replacement

In an effort to capitalize on North America's demand for refined, compact-crossover vehicles, Nissan introduced the Rogue in 2007 for the 2008 model year. It's impressive list of creature comforts, and excellent fuel economy, safety ratings and sticker price made the Rogue a formidable competitor in its class, and helped fill a niche market that demanded versatility without a harsh, truck-like ride. The rounded, wrap-around taillight assemblies look cool, and help with the vehicle's aerodynamics, but the design could also make the assemblies prone to accidental damage.

Open the liftgate. Remove the single bolt that secures the assembly to the vehicle, using a socket, extension and ratchet. Grasp the assembly and pull it from the vehicle.

Turn the bulb sockets counterclockwise, then pull the sockets from the assembly. If the bulbs are broken, pull them from the socket using a thick rag to protect your hands or use a pair of needle-nose pliers. Insert new bulbs as necessary.

Insert the sockets into the new assembly; turn the sockets clockwise to lock them in place. Align and press-fit the assembly to the vehicle, then secure the assembly with the bolt. Do not overtighten the bolt, or you may damage the new assembly or the vehicle. Test the brake and turn signal lamps for operation.
