The Honda Civic was introduced in 1973 in response to the oil crisis. It boasted 40 mpg. The 2000 Civic has an A/C condenser fan that is separate from the engine fan. The condenser fan motor can be replaced separately or the entire fan and housing can be purchased as a unit. The condenser fan operates primarily when the vehicle is at rest. It is not needed as long as air is passing through the condenser. If the fan should fail while the air conditioning is on and the car is at rest, the cabin air will become warm until the car is in motion again.
Instructions
- 1
Remove the two upper and two lower 10 mm bolts securing the air conditioning condenser to the radiator support shroud using a socket. Disconnect the fan electrical harness connector directly behind the fan.
2Remove the bolts securing the air conditioning high-side lines to the top of the condenser shroud, using a socket. These lines are in the way, making it difficult to lift the fan straight up. Carefully grab the lines at both sides of the fan shroud and push them rearward toward the engine just enough to allow the fan to be removed. Lift the fan straight up and out of the car.
3Install the new fan in the same manner as it was removed. Align the bottom holes in the shroud with the holes in the frame. Install the two bolts. Install the two bolts in the top of the shroud and tighten all four.
4Pull the air conditioning lines gently back over the fan shroud and insert and tighten the securing bolts. Plug in the electrical harness connector to the fan.
