The window glass may need to be removed from a Jeep Liberty because of damage or as part of a larger repair process. Most novice mechanics can remove the window in less than one hour with the aid of a few simple hand tools. Use special care when removing the glass to avoid any scrapes from the metal body. The following information pertains to 2002 through 2007 Jeep Liberties, which constitute the vast majority of such vehicles on the road.

Instructions

    1

Remove the two interior door panel retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver. One is located directly behind the door panel, hidden by a small cover. The other is in the recess of the armrest.

    2

Place a knife between the interior door panel and the door and pry the panel away from the door. Pry the panel away from the door to dislodge the retaining clips. Work around the entire edge of the panel to dislodge all of the clips.

    3

Pull the panel away from the door. Pull the panel only a few inches away from the door to gain enough room to work behind it.

    4

Move the door latch rod from the retaining clip. Then lower it to detach it from the door latch assembly. The rod can be removed by hand.

    5

Detach the electrical connectors; one for the power side mirrors and one for the power door locks. The connectors can be detached by hand.

    6

Peel the water shield from the inside of the door.

    7

Lower or raise the glass, making visible the retaining clips at the base of the window glass through the access hole in the door.

    8

Remove the outer piece of weatherstripping from the window opening. It can be pulled upward from the door. Place tape along the metal edge previously covered by the weatherstripping.

    9

Remove the two metal clips on the end of each plastic retainer on the base of the lift plate. Place a screwdriver between the metal clip and the retainer to move them out of the retainer.

    10

Remove the bolt in the middle of the lift plate with a socket wrench.

    11

Pull the window glass up and out of the door. Tilt the top of the glass toward the exterior of the vehicle to fit in under the window opening.
