Driver side windows protect the driver from various environmental elements, such as rain, snow or cold air. They can also be opened to allow for air to blow in and circulate throughout the vehicle. The window can be opened and closed manually through the use of a window crank, or electronically through the use of a switch that operates an electronic motor. If the driver's side window on your 1987 Bronco II becomes cracked, or breaks completely, it is necessary to replace it to continue protecting the driver.

Instructions

    1

Roll the window down completely and remove the door panel by first unscrewing the armrest and door handle. If the Bronco has power windows, locks or mirrors, remove the switch housings from the door panel for each switch. If the Bronco has manual windows or door locks, remove the window crank and lock controls from the door panel.

    2

Insert a small flat crowbar in between the panel and the door and slide it along the panel until it stops at one of the snaps holding it to the door. Gently twist the crowbar in order to pry the snap out and release the door panel. Continue to do this around the panel until all the snaps are released and the door panel is free from the door.

    3

Remove the window vent, at the front of the door, by first removing the screw from the division bar that separates the vent from the main window. Remove any weather stripping that may be installed and then unscrew the two screws that attach the vent at the front edge of the door.

    4

Take out the rear glass run and retainer assembly, which is located on the right side of the door, by sliding the window up, until it's about half closed, and pushing down on the left side of the window so it moves the right side out of the lower glass run. Carefully remove the two rivets and glass spacers that are holding the glass to the glass bracket assembly and pull the glass up and out of the door.

    5

Place the glass spacers over the retaining holes on the glass of the new window and position it inside the door on the glass bracket assembly. Make sure the retaining holes and glass spacers are lined up correctly and install the retaining rivets to secure the glass to the glass bracket assembly.

    6

Slowly lift the window up until it is fully closed and replace the rear glass run and retainer assembly to the right side of the door by replacing the bracket and rivet to hold it in place. Reinstall any weather stripping that was removed earlier.

    7

Replace the window vent by screwing in the two screws that hold it to the front edge of the door and the screw that secures it to the division bar. Place the paneling over the door and push on the edges to press in the snaps. Make sure to go all the way around the paneling to push in all the snaps so the paneling is secure to the door.

    8

Reinstall the power door lock, power window and power mirror switch housings, if the Bronco is equipped with them. If the Bronco is equipped with manual windows or door locks, re-add the window crank and lock controls to the door panel. Roll the window up and down a few times to test the installation of your driver side window.
