Door glass on your 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix is a type of glass known as tempered glass. This glass goes through a special process of heating and cooling which produces glass that does not shatter into sharp shards when broken. Tempered glass, which is a type of safety glass, breaks into nuggets when hit with enough force to break the window.
