Motor Authority says Audi is confirming an A3 Hybrid for 2012.  The new hybrid from Audi will use the twindrive from Volkswagen, the same hybrid system to be used in the Volkswagen Golf.

Top speed will be about 105 mph. Power will come from an electric motor with 40 hp and a small gas or diesel engine with 105hp. This will be an electric-range extended vehicle (E-REV), somewhat like the Chevy Volt.

The electric motor will be powered by a 12kWh lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery pack capable of 30 miles of all electric drive.

Audi is considering a $50,000 price tag on this plug-in hybrid capable of 113 mpg.
