The 1994 Toyota pickup was available in both two- and four-wheel-drive models. A 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine was the base engine, and a 3.0-liter V-6 was available as an upgrade for certain trim packages. The windshield wiper motor is inside the engine compartment, mounted directly to the truck's firewall. Replacing the motor requires precise measures to ensure proper fit and alignment of the motor to the wiper linkage.

Instructions

    1

Open the truck's hood and set the hood prop. Remove the electrical connector from the wiper motor on the passenger-side firewall. Pull the electrical connector free using your hand, along with a flat-head screwdriver if needed.

    2

Remove the wiper retainer mounting nuts from the firewall studs, using a ratchet and socket. Move the retainer bracket out of your work area. Pull the motor out of the firewall horizontally to expose the motor and linkage connection. Separate the wiper linkage from the motor ball stud by inserting a small pry bar between the rear of the motor and the linkage. Remove the old wiper motor from the engine compartment.

    3

Install the electrical connector onto the new motor, temporarily, by hand. Place the motor onto the passenger fender. Go to the driver's side of the pickup. Turn the ignition key to the accessories position without starting the engine. Turn the wiper switch on, then back off, to ensure that the wiper motor is in the park position. Turn the ignition key off and remove the key from the ignition.

    4

Step to the front of the Toyota. Move the wiper arms by hand to the park position, which is the downward position of the wipers when they are turned off. If the wipers are already in the park position, disregard this step.

    5

Align the new wiper motor ball socket directly with the wiper linkage. Snap the two pieces together, using large channel locks if needed. Make sure the plastic o-ring on the linkage is lined up correctly before you snap the two pieces together.

    6

Install the wiper and linkage horizontally into the firewall. Install the wiper motor retainer bracket and bolts. Tighten the mounting nuts to 47 inch-pounds using a 3/8-inch-drive torque wrench and socket.
