Epoxy is a chemical bonding agent formed when an epoxide (resin) is combined with a polyamine (hardener). Epoxy is used with many different materials, from metals to computer parts. Once it hardens it can be tricky to remove. If the epoxy is securing a processing chip to a circuit board you could very well damage the processor when trying to remove the epoxy. However, if the epoxy is on a metal part, such as the U-joint for a Chevy Tahoe, there are ways to remove it without damaging the part.

Instructions

    1

Place the U-joint on a work surface in front of you and locate the epoxy on the joint.

    2

Turn on your blowtorch and place the flame over the epoxy on the joint.

    3

Continue heating the epoxy with the flame until it reaches melting temperature. When this happens you will notice the epoxy turns from a solid into a mushy substance.

    4

Remove the flame from the epoxy and use your putty knife to scrape off all epoxy while the substance is still warm.
