Epoxy is a chemical bonding agent formed when an epoxide (resin) is combined with a polyamine (hardener). Epoxy is used with many different materials, from metals to computer parts. Once it hardens it can be tricky to remove. If the epoxy is securing a processing chip to a circuit board you could very well damage the processor when trying to remove the epoxy. However, if the epoxy is on a metal part, such as the U-joint for a Chevy Tahoe, there are ways to remove it without damaging the part.
Instructions
- 1
Place the U-joint on a work surface in front of you and locate the epoxy on the joint.
2Turn on your blowtorch and place the flame over the epoxy on the joint.
3Continue heating the epoxy with the flame until it reaches melting temperature. When this happens you will notice the epoxy turns from a solid into a mushy substance.
4Remove the flame from the epoxy and use your putty knife to scrape off all epoxy while the substance is still warm.
