If you are experiencing issues with the electric windows of your 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse, you could have two possible problems: a faulty fuse or a faulty regulator. Replacing either faulty component will solve the problem, but replacing the regulator is a lot more complex than replacing the fuse. The regulator is located behind the Eclipse's inner door panel. To gain access to the regulator, you must remove the door panel. You can replace the fuse within a matter of minutes, but it will take you close to an hour to replace the regulator.
Instructions
Replacing the Fuse
- 1
Open the Eclipse's hood.
2Remove the fuse box cover by lifting it off with your hands.
3Remove the regulator fuse in slot 14 by using a fuse puller.
4Install a replacement 15A fuse into slot 14.
5Reattach the cover to the fuse box and close the hood. Test the window operation. If replacing the fuse failed to solve the problem, move on to the next section.
Replacing the Regulator
- 6
Open the hood of the Eclipse and use a socket wrench to remove the negative terminal from the battery.
7Remove the screws from edge of inner door panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the inner door panel off the door.
8Disconnect the two electrical wiring connectors from the inner door panel by pushing in on their tabs and pulling them off the inner door panel. Peel off the door's watershield.
9Remove the four bolts securing the regulator to the door. Disconnect the regulator's wiring connector. Remove the regulator from the door. Place the new regulator onto the door and reinstall the four bolts to secure it. Reattach the wiring connector.
10Reconnect the two wiring connectors to the inner door panel. Place the inner door panel back onto the door and reinstall its screws. Reconnect the battery and close the Eclipse's hood.
