The vehicle speed sensor on the 1994 Dodge Ram truck is located on the transmission extension housing and could allow transmission fluid to leak if the seals are bad. The speed sensor sends information from the transmission to the computer, which the computer uses to govern fuel injection and timing. If you have a four-wheel drive, the speed sensor is located on the transfer case, which may also leak if the seals are bad.
Instructions
- 1
Unplug the speed sensor wiring harness connector. Remove the sensor mounting bolt, using the appropriate socket.
2Pull the sensor straight out of the extension housing or transfer case. The speed sensor is in the same place as the speedometer pinion gear adapter--do not remove the gear adapter from the transmission when pulling the sensor out.
3Clean the inside of the pinion gear adapter, using a shop rag. Insert the sensor into its orifice, ensuring that it is fully seated.
4Tighten the retaining bolt snugly. Do not overtighten the bolt, as you could damage the sensor. Plug in the wiring harness connector.
