Nissan released the mid-sized Altima in the 1993 model year as the replacement for the Stanza. In its second model year, 1994, the Altima came in four different trim levels: XE, GXE, SE and GLE. The GXE trim level of the Altima had an optional four-speaker stereo system available. Nissan positioned the two front speakers inside the front doors and the two rear speakers in the rear window deck. Replacing the speakers in the 1994 Altima GXE requires the removal of the front door panels and the rear window deck cover.
