The mid-sized Camry has been a staple in Toyotas lineup since it replaced the rear-wheel-drive Corona in 1983. The Camry, as with other mid-sized foreign cars, was a near immediate success. The fifth generation of Camrys 2002 through 2006 brought a completely new look to the vehicle. Hard-angled headlights and sharp body lines livened up the Camry's once conservative styling. The 2005 Camry came standard with an AM-FM, six-speaker stereo system with a CD player. Replacing the 2005 Camrys factory stereo is straightforward, but does require care to avoid breaking the Camrys interior trim.

Instructions

Removing the Radio

    1

Wrap a coat of duct tape around the metal part of a flat-head screwdriver to prevent damage to the Camrys interior from prying.

    2

Insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver between the lower part of the climate-control panel and the dashboard. Pry upward on the bottom of the climate-control panel to disengage the lower clips. Pull the climate-control panel from the dashboard. Allow the panel to hang by its wiring.

    3

Remove the four bolts securing the bottom of the radio bezel the trim around the radio to the dashboard with a ratchet, socket and 6-inch extension. Pry around the perimeter of the bezel to disengage its five retaining clips. Slide the radio bezel, with the radio attached, from the dashboard just enough to reach the wiring harness on top of the bezel. Press and hold the unlocking button on the wiring harness connecting to the top of the bezel and pull the harness from the bezel.

    4

Slide the radio and bezel from the dashboard until you can access the wires on the rear of the radio. Press and hold the unlock button on each of the wiring harnesses on the rear of the radio and pull each harness from the radio the number of harnesses depends on audio options on the Camry. Pull the antenna wire from the rear of the radio. Slide the radio and bezel from the dashboard.

    5

Look at the top and bottom of the radio from the rear and find where the radios bracket clips to the radio bezel. Pry upward on the each lower radio bracket-to-bezel clip with a flat-head screwdriver and pull the lower part of the radio from the bezel. Pry downward on the each upper-radio bracket-to-bezel clip with a flat-head screwdriver and pull the radio from the bezel.

Installing a Radio

    6

Line up the clips on the radios bracket with the tabs on the rear of the radio bezel. Press the radio into the rear of the bezel until the clips snap into place, securing the radio.

    7

Plug the wiring harnesses and antenna cable into the rear of the radio. Slide the radio and bezel toward the dashboard until you can plug the harness into the top of the bezel. Plug the wiring harness into the top of the bezel, and line up the clips on the rear of the bezel with the slots on the dashboard. Press the bezel and radio toward the dashboard until the clips snap into place.

    8

Tighten the four radio- and bezel-retaining bolts with a ratchet, socket and 6-inch extension.

    9

Set the climate-control panel so its retaining clips line up with the slots in the dashboard. Press the climate-control panel onto the dashboard until it snaps into place.
