In 1987, Dodge released the all-new Dakota pickup. In the process, Dodge also created an important niche market for itself. The Dakota was slightly larger than most compact pickups, but smaller than a full-sized pickup. The 1998 Dakota came standard with a 120-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. It also came standard with four-adjustment, reclining bucket seats on the passenger's and driver's side. Removing the driver's seat in the 1998 Dakota is a relatively straightforward process.

Instructions

    1

Look under the driver's seat and locate the wiring harness. Disconnect this harness, by pressing the locking button and pulling the harness from the seat.

    2

Remove the four bolts -- two fronts and two rears -- holding the seat to the floor of the Dakota, using a ratchet and socket. Move the seat forward and backward, as needed, to access these nuts.

    3

Pull the seat from the Dakota.

    4

Set the new seat in place inside the Dakota and line up the holes in the seat track with the holes in the floorboards. Tighten the four bolts to 21 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench and socket.

    5

Plug the wiring harness into the seat.
