Ford offered the 2006 F-250 with a 5.4-liter or 6.8-liter gas engine, as well as a 6.0-liter diesel. Since the F-250 came in a variety of configurations, Ford also offered different side-view mirrors, standard and towing. Regardless of the mirror style, if you strike a road side obstacle, you'll need to replace the mirror, since Ford does not offer service parts for either design. Since mirrors are a necessary safety feature, it's best to replace them immediately once they incur damage, whether it's the side-view or windshield-mounted variety.

Instructions

Side-View Mirror

    1

Pry the inner door handle bezel out of the door panel with the trim tool. Pry the power window and power lock panel out of the door panel with the trim tool. Unplug the window and lock buttons from the wiring harness and set the switch panel aside.

    2

Remove the upper sail-panel trim from the backside of the A-pillar with a trim tool. Take off the courtesy light lens from the bottom of the door panel with the trim tool. Remove the bolts behind the inner door handle bezel, switch panel, sail-panel trim and courtesy light with a socket wrench and 8-mm socket.

    3

Lift the door panel up and off the F250's door. Unplug the power mirror switch from the wiring harness, if so equipped. Set the panel aside.

    4

Remove the three retaining nuts from the mirror mounting studs using the socket wrench and 13-mm socket. Unplug the mirror from the door harness, if you're working with a power mirror.

    5

Move to the outside of the F-250's door and push down slightly on the mirror to pull it free from the mount. Slide the mirror from the door, while guiding the wiring harness through the clearance hole, if so equipped.

    6

Slide the new mirror onto the F-250's door after guiding the mirror wiring harness through the clearance hole, if so equipped. Move to the inside of the door and tighten the three retaining nuts onto the mirror using the socket and wrench.

    7

Plug the mirror wiring harness into the door harness, if so equipped. Set the door panel back onto the door. Reinstall the door panel retaining bolts using the socket wrench and socket.

    8

Reinstall the inner door handle bezel, switch panel, sail-panel trim and courtesy light lens after plugging the power lock and window switches into the wiring harness.

Rearview Mirror

    9

Draw a circle on the outside of the windshield around the edges of the windshield's rearview mirror to mark the exact location of the mirror mount. Move to the inside of the F-250's cab. Cut the adhesive between the mirror mount and the windshield with a razor scraper to remove the old mirror.

    10

Disconnect the old mirror from the wiring harness, if so equipped. Scrap any leftover adhesive from the windshield with the razor scraper. Clean the area with the alcohol prep cloth included in the rearview mirror installation kit.

    11

Apply a pea-sized drop of rearview mirror adhesive to the new mirror mount. Allow the adhesive to cure per the instructions on the mirror kit packaging. Hold the mirror to the inside of the windshield - placing the mount inside the circle you drew on the outside of the windshield in Step 1 - for one minute.

    12

Plug the mirror wiring harness into the new mirror, if so equipped.
