How to Fix a Halogen Spotlight

A halogen spotlight is a portable device that is used when a bright light is necessary. It is usually used in an emergency, -- during car breakdowns and for outdoor camping trips. Fix a halogen spotlight by taking out the burned out fuse for the cigarette lighter plug, replacing it with a new one, disassembling the lens and the reflector, and replacing the light bulb if it is broken.

Replace the fuse plug for the cigarette lighter of your halogen spotlight.

Unplug your spotlight from its power source. Unscrew the lighter plug cap and pull it off of the fuse. Pull the fuse out of the lighter plug and see if it is burned out. The fuse is burned out if the fuse element located inside the glass tube is missing or broken.

Replace the burned out fuse with a new 8 Amp fuse. Take the old fuse out of the fuse holder and insert the new one in. Put the fuse holder with the fuse in it into the lighter plug. Screw the lighter plug cap back on.

Replace the light bulb for your halogen spotlight. Unplug the spotlight from the charger and remove the rubber cap from the front of the barrel. Unscrew the retainer for the glass lens and pull the reflector and the lens away from the rear housing. Squeeze in the ends of the wire retainer and lift upwards. Pull the old bulb out of the reflector assembly.

Grasp the new bulb by the metal end and install it into the reflector assembly. Avoid touching the glass part of the bulb. Put the wire retainer back into the reflector assembly by squeezing the ends together while pressing it down. Release the ends to allow them to catch on the reflector assembly.

Place the lens and reflector back into the rear housing. Screw the retainer for the glass lens back on. Put the rubber cap back on.
