How to Install the Lokar Kickdown Linkage

Since the late 1980s, Lokar has been manufacturing products for the automotive aftermarket industry. Its line of hi-tech kickdown kits are designed to be cut to the length needed during the installation process. These cables are available with stainless steel braided or black housing. The black housing uses extruded liner for continuous protection and extended life of the cable. The purpose of the cable is to deliver the input from the driver's throttle to the vehicle's carburetor.

Instructions

    1

Push the trans tube onto the end of the cable without the O-ring and inner cable.

    2

Loosen the bolt on your carburetor for the spring return bracket with a wrench. Align the provided spring return bracket over the bolt hole and reinstall the bolt. Tighten the bolt with a wrench.

    3

Run the braided cable housing to the adjuster bracket and cut about 1 inch longer than you need with diagonal cutters.

    4

Remove the trans tube by pulling it off. Feed the inner cable through the housing and reinstall the trans tube with the O-ring in place on its end. Apply a small amount of silicone sealant to the O-ring to prevent moisture penetration.

    5

Secure the hex carb fitting to the throttle cable receiver on the carburetor by inserting its bolt through the hole on the receiver, and tightening the provided bolt.

    6

Hook the tear drop spring to the hole on the hex carb fitting and pull it to the spring return bracket with a spring puller. Hook the other end of the spring to the hole provided on the spring return bracket.

    7

Insert the inner cable through the Lokar slide fitting. Insert the cable stop onto the end of the cable and push it down the cable until it is 1 inch from the cable slide fitting. Tighten the set hex screw on the cable stop with a hex key.

    8

Cut off the excess cable with wire cutters, leaving about an inch of extra cable after the cable stop.
