You 1994 Camaro may have came with the economy minded 3.4-liter six-cylinder or the traditional small block 5.7-liter eight-cylinder engine with an auto or five-speed transmission. Whether you have the gas hog or are still waiting to make yours into another v-8 Camaro, you will have the same hard plastic upper panel on the dashboard as any other Camaro of the era. This hard panel is always found to be cracked or broken just that like in the 3rd generation camaros. A replacement top panel is expensive; around two or three hundred dollars from the dealership, but Chevy made this top panel a lot easier to replace than the 2nd or 3rd generation Camaros.

Instructions

    1

Open the vehicle doors and roll down the windows to get the air circulating. Pry outward on the trim panels along the windshield with a small pry bar; there will be one at the top, middle and bottom. Dont worry if you brake or lose the clips hear, your local parts store sells them at a reasonable price. Examine the area where the dash pad meets the shell; where the pillar panel was removed from. Remove the attaching screw on each side with a screwdriver; due to design changes your Camaro may or may not have these attaching screws.

    2

Pry upward on the front of the dash panel and begin to lift it towards the windshield; as much as you paid for your Camaro when it rolled of the show room floor you would expect more than double sided tape, but thats what holds your pad to the dash board. Once you can reach the rear tape pry upwards around them until you can remove the dash cover from the vehicle.

    3

Before installing the new pad or re-installing the one you removed clean the entire back side of it with a mild cleaner and remove any residue left from the original tape on the dash board and the backside of the dash pad.

    4

Place new double sided sticky tape in the same locations as installed from the factory. If you have wider tape this would be preferred, as long as it doesnt block any of the vents. You can even apply extra tape to open areas as long as is will contact with a flat portion of the dash board. Remove the backing from the opposite side of the tape and carefully set the pad into position on the dash board.

    5

Install the two mounting screws, if equipped; tightening them snug will be sufficient, but service manuals call for 7 foot-pounds. Replace any lost pillar trim clips and tap the pillar trim panels into place. There was a service bulletin issued in May of 1994 that addressed shaking dash pads. Some Camaros exhibited vibration in the upper panel and GM replaced the double sided tape with a pop rivet and more tape. If your removing your dash pad to solve a vibration issue you may want to contact your local dealership to see if your vehicle is eligible for a free repair.
