The Galant has long been the flagship sedan in Mitsubishis lineup. In 2004, the Galant underwent a drastic overhaul, which was geared more towards the U.S. marketplace than any other market. The 2004 Galant featured a far more luxurious appearance than before, as well as modern-looking headlights and taillights. The 2004 Galant had side marker lights installed on the front and rear light assemblies. Replacing these bulbs it fairly simple and requires no tools.

Instructions

Front Side Marker Bulb

    1

Open the Galants hood and look on the rear side of the headlight assembly; notice there are three electrical sockets attached to it.

    2

Press and hold the unlocking button on the uppermost wiring harness (if the Galant has projector-style lights) or the harness farthest to the outside (if the Galant has standard headlights), and pull the wiring harness from the socket.

    3

Twist the Galants side marker socket about a quarter-turn counterclockwise to unlock it, and pull the socket from the rear of the headlight assembly.

    4

Grab the side marker bulb and pull it from the socket with a slight wiggling motion. Grab a new style 2827 bulb (without projector lights) or a style 168 bulb (with projector lights) with a clean, lint-free cloth and press it into the socket. Never touch the bulb with your bare hands.

    5

Inset the socket and new bulb into the hole in the headlight assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place. Plug the wiring harness back into the rear of the socket.

    6

Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to replace the front side marker light on the other side of the Galant, if needed.

    7

    Close the Galants hood.

Rear Side Marker Bulb

    8

Open the Galants trunk, and remove the trunk floor panel -- the cover hiding the spare tire -- by pulling the rearmost part of it upward and out of the trunk.

    9

Grab the carpeting behind the rear taillight lens and pull it away from the rear of the lens.

    10

Remove the two taillight lens assembly-retaining nuts with a ratchet and socket. Pull the taillight lens assembly outward until you can access the wiring on the rear of the assembly.

    11

Twist the socket on the lower, outside part of the taillight lens assembly -- the side marker socket -- a quarter-turn counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the socket and old bulb from the taillight lens assembly. Pull the old bulb from the socket with a slight wiggling motion.

    12

Hold a new style 168 bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth and press it into the socket. Insert the socket and new bulb back into the hole on the rear of the taillight lens assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place.

    13

Line up the studs on the rear of the taillight lens assembly with the holes in the taillight assemblys bed on the rear of the vehicle. Guide the studs into the holes and hand-tighten the retaining nuts. Lightly snug the retaining nuts with a ratchet and socket.

    14

Pull the carpet back down and over the taillight lens-retaining hardware.

    15

Repeat Steps 2 through 7 to replace the rear side marker light on the other side of the Galant, if needed.

    16

Reinstall the trunk floor panel. Close the trunk lid.
