If you have adjusted your car's valves, the crankshaft should be rotated. The crankshaft is not rotated by hand or through a different part of the engine. Instead, a nut on the side of the crankshaft lets you spin the crankshaft when it is turned. When turning the nut, ensure that you are turning it the right way. If it is turned the wrong way, the engine will not function properly afterward.
Instructions
- 1
Remove the spark plugs to loosen the compression stroke. Use a spark plug removal tool to pull the plug out of place.
2Locate the crank nut. It is about halfway down on the side of the crank.
3Place the 13/16-inch breaker bar onto the crank nut.
4Turn the crankshaft clockwise. If you turn it counter-clockwise, the camshaft will be too loose to run properly. Turn the crankshaft until the rocker is at its highest point. It is only then that the crankshaft is properly set.
