The window regulator on a 2001 Dodge Caravan is an assembly with two guide rails connected together with four arms to a central regulator. It is partially installed within the actual door itself; the ends of the guide rails go through the door's access holes while the central regulator is positioned between the main door and its trim panel/watershield. You need to install the regulator onto a door with its trim panel removed and then install the glass within the regulator.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the van's negative (black) battery cable, loosening the clamp on the negative terminal with a wrench.

    2

Insert the regulator's front guide rail through the front access hole in the door -- the one closest to the steering column and engine -- then insert the rear guide rail through the rear hole.

    3

Lower the regulator so the ends of its guide rails and the screw holes line up with the key hole slots in the door panel. Insert the screw heads onto the guide rails and tighten the screws with a screwdriver.

    4

Plug in the electrical connector to the door for the regulator if the door uses power windows.

    5

Slide the window glass into the door through the opening at the top of the door. Install the weatherstripping onto the glass and slide it into place within the run channels.

    6

Line up the tabs on the glass lift plate with the regulator's lift plates and connect the clips for the regulator to connect the two plates.

    7

Paste the plastic weathershield onto the door panel using its own adhesive.

    8

Place the door's trim panel onto the door, connecting all of its wiring harnesses, and press it in place to seat the hooks. Screw in the fasteners near the bottom and top edges of the panel.

    9

Connect the power window controls to the trim panel by connecting its electrical connector and seating it in place, or connect the manual window crank with its clip.

    10

    Reconnect the battery cable.
