Jeep CJ7s have two different types of windows depending on what type of door is installed on your Jeep. This window can be a snap-in-place plastic window or a glass window. Plastic windows are easy to replace simply by snapping a new window in place of the old, but glass windows require more effort. Use care when handling the window, as dropping it on an edge will cause the glass to shatter.
Instructions
- 1
Open the door of the Jeep containing the window that has to be replaced. There are bolts that have to be removed before the door panel can be removed from the CJ7.
2Remove the bolts under the armrest of the Jeep CJ7, using the socket wrench. Remove the screw in the interior door handle. Slide the window crank remover tool between the window crank base and the door panel. You will hear a click when the retaining ring is released. Pull the window crank off of its post.
3Pull the armrest and the door handle cover plate off of the interior panel. Wedge the door panel removal tool between the door frame and the interior panel. There are a series of clips that hold the panel to the door frame. Use the removal tool to pry these clips out of their access holes.
4Lift the interior panel straight up to release it from the window track and remove it from the CJ7. Set it aside where it will not be in your way.
5Slide the window crank back onto the crank post and use it to lower the window. When the window is out of the way, pull the window weatherstripping off of the door frame. Look in the round access holes in the door frame where the interior panel was installed. Inside these holes, find the mounting bolts that attach the lower window tracks to the door frame. Use the socket wrench to remove these bolts.
6Raise the window until you can see the lower track on which the window is mounted. Remove the bolts that attach the window to this point. Pull the window out of the track, then out of the door.
7Fit the new window into the door frame the same way that the old window was removed. There are two holes in the base of the glass. Align these with the mounting bolts in the bottom track of the window and gently snug the mounting bolts in place.
8Slide the window tracks onto the new window and secure them with their mounting bolts. Use the socket wrench to tighten these bolts to the door frame.
9Reinstall the window weatherproofing onto the door frame. Run the window all the way up to snug the rubber against the metal door. Run the window all the way down. Reinstall the door panel in the opposite manner from which it was removed to complete the installation of the new window in the Jeep CJ7.
