The brake rotor on a Honda Accord is one of three key components of the anti-lock braking system. The rotor works in conjunction with the brake pads to slow and stop the vehicle. The brake pads are equipped with wear indicators that scratch the rotor surface to indicate the necessity to replace the pads. Badly scored or warped rotors should be replaced as soon as possible. Damaged rotors will significantly compromise the Honda Accord's braking performance.
Instructions
- 1
Park the Honda Accord in an area that will allow you to safely work on both sides of the vehicle.
2Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels with the lug wrench.
3Lift the vehicle with the jack, and place jack stands beneath the frame.
4Remove the lug nuts, and pull the wheels from the wheel bolts.
5Spray the rotor with chain lubricant.
6Remove the caliper slide bolts with the 13 mm socket. Pull the caliper from the caliper bridge, and place it on top of the steering arm.
7Remove the brake pads from each side of the rotor. The brake pads fit into the caliper bridge and can be removed by pulling them outward away from the surface of the rotor.
8Remove the caliper bridge bolts with a 15 mm socket. Pull the caliper bridge from the rotor.
9Pull the rotor straight away from the steering arm.
10Clean the entire new rotor with brake cleaner. Wipe the rotor dry with a clean cloth.
11Place the new rotor onto the wheel bolts, with the top hat section facing outward.
12Place the caliper bridge onto the new rotor. Replace the caliper bridge bolts with a 15 mm socket.
13Inspect the brake pads for wear. Place the brake pads into the caliper bridge on each side of the rotor.
14Replace the caliper onto the caliper bridge, over the brake pads. Replace the caliper slide bolts with the 13 mm socket.
15Place the wheel onto the wheel bolts, and screw on the lug nuts.
16Lift the Accord to remove the jack stands, then lower the vehicle to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
