The window regulator in your 1997 Lincoln Town Car is used to fix the window in place within the door frame and allow you to open and close the window as you see fit. If your window regulator becomes damaged, it can damage the stability of your window and potentially lead to it breaking. You should replace your window regulator before this can happen.

Instructions

    1

Open the door of your Lincoln.

    2

Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws attached to the window trim. Use a trim stick to remove the trim from the window. If you are replacing the regulator on either of the front two windows you will also have to remove the trim from around the rearview wing mirror.

    3

Use a wrench to remove the black back plate which is fixed to the door. Remove the mounting bolts around the edge of the plate and lift it from the door.

    4

Use a hex wrench to carefully remove the hex bolts attached to the regulator. This will disconnect the regulator from the window pane.

    5

Remove the mounting bolts at the bottom of the regulator to completely disconnect the regulator from the door. Remove the regulator from the vehicle.

    6

Attach a new window regulator to the door by attaching the mounting bolts at the bottom of the regulator. Attach the regulator to the window with the hex bolts. Reattach the door assembly by following the removal steps in reverse.
