The Altima hybrid has been EPA rated at 42/36 City/Highway mpg. It is rated as an Advanced Technology-Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV). Those who buy an Altima Hybrid are eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $2,350.
Nissan is reluctant to enter the hybrid marketplace, claiming they will lose money selling hybrid cars and have not yet developed their own hybrid technology. Which is why the new Altima hybrid is built using Toyotas Synergy Drive.
