The 2002 Chevy Silverado uses a cable-style window regulator with two upright posts. The cables are the most troublesome part of the regulator. Each of the two posts has a window support bracket. The cables are crossed so that as the motor turns, the window support bracket on both posts move in the same direction; up or down. This is not a difficult process and requires very few tools.

Instructions

    1

Remove the small rectangular plastic cover directly above the armrest, using a screwdriver to pry it off. Pry off the cover behind the door handle. Pull the small circular cover off the single screw on both sides of the door panel. Remove these screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

    2

Pry off the side-view mirror cover using the screwdriver. Remove the Phillips screw behind the cover above the armrest. Remove the bolt under the rear of the armrest with a nut driver.

    3

Move the door panel away from the door and unplug the lower marker light and window switch electrical connectors. Place the door panel aside. Twist the door latch rod retainer off the rod and remove the bolt securing the door handle to the door, using a nut driver. Lift the door handle off the door and pull the door latch rod out of the door handle.

    4

Peel the moisture shield off to access the window regulator. Remove the top bolt in both vertical posts, using a nut driver. The bolts are in a square hole at the top of each post. Tape the window to keep it from falling once released. Unplug the window motor at the motor.

    5

Remove the four bolts on the front and rear vertical posts, using a nut driver. Remove the single bolt in each of the two window support brackets. Twist the rear vertical post counterclockwise and remove it from the door. Twist the front vertical post with the motor clockwise and remove it from the door.

    6

Insert the new window regulator and motor in the same order and manner you removed the old one. Align the holes and insert the bolts in both vertical posts. Remove the tape and lower the window into the window support brackets and install the bolts.

    7

Plug in the window motor. Install the moisture shield. Install the door handle by placing the door latch rod into the hole in the handle arm and push the retaining clip down over the rod. Install the bolt in the door handle that secures it to the door.

    8

Install the electrical plugs in the window switch and lower marker light. Install the door panel by hooking it on the top ledge and lowering the door panel. Install the Phillips screws on both side of the door panel --- the one above the armrest and the one above the door handle and just beneath the armrest.

    9

Place the little rod covers over the screws on each side of the door panel. Install the cover behind the door handle and the one over the armrest. Install the side view mirror cover by aligning the holes and pushing it on.
