If the steering is off on the go-kart it may be because the kingpin, also referred to as the steering knuckle or shoulder bolt, has become damaged or misaligned. The steering knuckle. The kingpin is a singular bolt found on each front tire that holds the tie rod end to the front wheel assembly. This mechanism is crucial to go-kart turning and maneuvering. If aligning the front end of the go-kart, it may be necessary to remove the kingpin.

Instructions

    Lift the front end of the go-kart up and place a cinder block beneath the front end to lift if from the ground. This will give easier access to the kingpin.

    Turn the steering wheel hard to the left if removing the left kingpin, or to the right if removing the right kingpin to gain easier access

    Locate the bolt that runs downwards through the steering arm. This is the kingpin, or shoulder bolt.

    Place an open end wrench on the bottom nut and hold it firmly.

    Place the socket set on the bolt on top and turn to the left until it separates from the nut on the bottom. Pull the kingpin up and out to remove it.
