The 2005 Montego is Mercury's version of the Ford 500. Available in the Luxury and Premier trim packages, both versions of the Montego came with keyless entry and remote entry. Keyless entry uses a keypad on the driver door to unlock the doors after you enter a five-digit code. Remote entry employs a key fob remote, with single button control over the Montego's power door locks. You must have all the remotes you wish to use with the Montego on hand; only remotes present during programming will work with the Montego after the procedure is complete.

Instructions

    1

Insert the key into the Montego's ignition. Turn the ignition to the run position -- the position right before you crank the starter.

    2

Lock and unlock the Montego's door with the master lock switch on the driver's door to activate the lock system.

    3

Remove the key from the ignition. Reinsert the key.

    4

Turn the ignition key to the run position and back to the off position -- where the key sits when you first place it in the ignition. Do this seven times, quickly, taking an evenly spaced amount of time to do turn the key each time. Stop turning the key when you get to the run position the seventh time; the locks in all the doors should cycle to acknowledge the system is now in programming mode.

    5

Push a lock or unlock button on each fob you want to program to the Montego. Turn the ignition off and remove the key from the ignition. Push a lock or unlock button on each fob to make sure programming was successful; if not, repeat Steps 3 and 4.
