The GM 6.5L engine was produced by General Motors and used in several vehicles from 1992 to 2004. Most of these vehicles were full-size GMC and Chevrolet trucks such as the Blazer, Tahoe, Suburban and K-Series trucks, but the GM 6.5 was also used in the Hummer H1 from 1994 to 2004. If you need to change a fuel injector, which mixes air and fuel in the engine, you can do so easily with the appropriate tools.

Instructions

    1

Put on the gloves and lift up the vehicle's hood. With a socket wrench, manually disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

    2

Relieve the fuel system pressure from the vehicle. Consult your owner's manual for the exact specifications on how to perform this on your specific vehicle.

    3

Disconnect the electrical wiring connection from the fuel meter body and the fuel feed. Remove the hoses from the engine's fuel pipes.

    4

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the upper manifold assembly screws, then remove the upper manifold assembly.

    5

Remove the poppet nozzle from the engine's casting socket with a flat-head screwdriver. Release the locktabs to remove the fuel meter body.

    6

Use a socket wrench to remove the lower hold-down nuts and plate. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the injectors from the injector terminals on the engine.

    7

Use engine oil to lubricate the new injector O-rings seats and install the O-rings onto the injector. Reattach the fuel injector into the fuel meter body injector socket.

    8

Reattach the lower hold-down plate and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 3 Nm with a torque wrench. Reinstall the fuel meter body assembly and tighten the bolts to 10 Nm.

    9

Reattach the fuel meter body into the bracket. Secure all of the locking tabs and reattach the poppet nozzles into the casting sockets. Reattach the electrical wiring connector and install the fuel feed and hoses. Tighten the nuts to 30 Nm.

    10

Reinstall the manifold assembly and reconnect the vehicle's battery. Close the hood.
