The inside door panel on a 2003 GMC pickup is secured to the door with a variety of fasteners, including plastic push pins, steel screws and integrated locking tabs. The door panel covers the interior components of the door such as the window motor, regulator, door lock rods and locking mechanisms. The entire door panel must be removed in order to service any of those components, including the door-mounted speaker. To avoid damage to the door panel and any of its related components, the panel must be disassembled and removed in a specific sequence. Failure to follow this sequence can result in damage to the door panel or the door itself.

Instructions

Removal

    1

Insert a flat-head screwdriver between the door panel and the door handle bezel. Pry the door handle bezel away from the door panel until it pops loose. Remove the door handle bezel. Insert a putty knife between the door panel and the trim panel upper extension; pry it away from the door until it pops loose.

    2

Pry the manual lock lever away from the trim panel until it pops loose. Remove the trim panel behind the manual lock lever with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the screw from the opening at the front of the armrest with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the screw positioned beneath the map pocket, if equipped, with a Phillips screwdriver.

    3

Grip the trim panel with two hands and lift it straight up to release the trim panel retainers from the door. Pull the trim panel away from the door and disconnect any electrical connectors from the door to the trim panel. Completely remove the trim panel from the door.

Installation

    4

Connect the electrical connectors from the door to the trim panel. Align the trim panel with the door and slide the retaining tabs on the back of the panel into the retaining slots on the door skeleton.

    5

Install the trim panel screws located beneath the map pocket, at the front of the armrest, and behind the manual lock lever.

    6

Align the manual lock lever with the hole in the trim panel. Press down on the lock lever until it snaps into place.

    7

Set the upper trim panel extension into place and press down on it until it snaps into place. Set the door handle bezel into position and press down on it until it snaps into place. Test the switches to ensure they properly operate. Open and close the door; listen for rattling and verify the door panel is securely installed.
